Swimming as a sport requires proper technique, strength, and endurance. As such, regular, progressively intense practices are required. All swimmers are expected to attend all regularly scheduled practices and must be enrolled in the athletic period.
PARENTS are NOT ALLOWED on the pool deck during practice.

Village Pool
3:30 - 5:30 PM
Transportation provided from the school in the afternoon to practice. Coach Frey will drive the bus and we will depart EVHS at 3:10 PM to the Village Pool for practice. The athletes will need to be picked up for the Village Pool at 5:30 PM.
EQUIPMENT
Clearly mark all items with swimmer's name
GISD provides a pull buoy, kick board, paddles, and fins.
Required Equipment
> Practice suits (2 or more recommended, practice suits wear out and must be replaced as needed.)
> Swim snorkel (example: https://www.swimoutlet.com/p/arena-swim-snorkel-pro-8132704/?color=9325)
> Goggles (2 or more recommended)
> Practice swim caps (2 or more recommended)
> Water bottle, preferably 1/2 gallon insulated sport jug
> Dry land exercise attire
> Running/gym shoes
> Swimmer’s ear drops – use after every swim
> Sunscreen for outdoor swim
> Nose clips, if needed (2 or more recommended)
> Yoga mat
> Jump rope
> towel
LOCKERS
All athletes will be assigned a locker and lock at their respective campuses. Athletes must lock up their belongings. GISD Athletic Department is not responsible for the loss of valuables that are not secured in a locker.
Athletes are responsible for any equipment or bags checked-out to the athlete. If lost or damaged the athlete will have to pay a fee.
A note from a parent does not excuse a swimmer from practice. A doctor’s note must be provided to the coach in the event of an injury.
Missed practices or meets due to injury
If an athlete becomes injured they must report it to both coaches, and the head athletic trainer. A GISD swimmer who is unable to participate in practices or meets because of an injury will have no penalty at the coaches’ discretion, but must attend and watch ALL practices and meets.
Missed practices or meets due to illness
A GISD swimmer who is unable to participate in practices or meets because of an illness should email both coaches. A note from a parent does not excuse a swimmer from practice. A doctor’s note must be provided to the coach in the event of illness.
Excused absences
A GISD swimmer who misses practice because of an excused absence will complete a practice make-up set at the coach’s discretion to be completed outside of normal practice times.
Unexcused absences
A GISD swimmer who misses practice because of an unexcused absence will complete a practice make-up set at the coach’s discretion to be completed outside of normal practice times.
Missed meet
A GISD swimmer that misses a UIL swim meet will complete practice make-up set/s at the coach’s discretion to be completed outside of normal practice times.
Leaving practice early
A GISD swimmer that must leave practice early or arrive late will complete a practice make-up set at the coach’s discretion to be completed outside of normal practice times.
BAD WEATHER
In the event of bad weather, practice will be held unless you are otherwise notified by the school or coaches. If there is thunder or lightening, we will not be in the water as required, but we will do dry land exercises or other activities.
A GISD swimmer may come late or leave early to attend a USA swimming club practice no more than three days a week. The student athlete must spend at least 60 minutes of the GISD practice participating with the team.
