View the 2022 Schedule

By choosing to join the EVHS cross-country team, you have chosen to be a part of something bigger than racing.   You have chosen a sport that is the definition of an “endurance” sport.  The root of endurance is “endure” - and endure you will.   We all endure, because that is living.  Long distance running will teach you how to endure with grace.  Things will get hard.  You will be tired.  You will be sore.  Outside life and school will challenge you.  You’ll question why you are doing this.  But… I promise you this:  If you can endure;  if you can push through;  if you can take that first step every morning without fail;  the rewards will far outweigh the discomforts.  A wise coach told me ages ago, that to be successful - I needed to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.   Most of you have no idea what you are capable of - in running and in life.

If I could give you one piece of advice before we embark on this adventure, it would be this.  Don’t be afraid to dream big.   Then, when the alarm goes off at 5:30 am, or the pain sets in with miles left to run, or you need to study for that test - you’ll have something to draw on.   As coaches, we can’t tell you what should drive you or what your goals should be.  All we can do is believe in you and try to give you the tools to achieve those goals - no matter how audacious.
