Coach Toups
Coach Michael Toups
Coach Toups is in his first year as the head basketball coach at East View High School. Coach Toups has spent the last eight years as the top assistant at two highly successful programs in Texas. He was at the Woodlands High School from 2015-2018 before spending the most recent five years at Leander High School. Six of those eight varsity teams advanced to the state playoffs.
Coach Toups served as a head coach in the state of Louisiana for thirteen years, all in the highest levels of basketball in the state. His overall record as a head coach is 243-179, and his best team at St. Paul’s High School was a district champion and advanced to the state quarterfinals.
Beyond coaching his own team, Coach Toups was an advocate for basketball in the state of Louisiana. In this role, he coached the East All Star squad in 2006-07, was Vice President of the Louisiana High School Basketball Coaches Association from 2010-2012, and coordinated the East All-Star Team in 2014.
Coach Toups earned a communications degree from Loyola University in New Orleans where he also played basketball collegiately for three seasons. He earned a Master’s Degree in the Art of English Teaching from the University of New Orleans in 2008. In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Toups teaches English II Advanced.
Each of Coach Toups’ parents devoted over 40 years to the field of education and his sister, Melissa, is a scientist who runs her own lab in Bournemouth, England.
In his spare time, Coach Toups enjoys reading, movies, live music, playing tennis, biking, traveling, and rooting for the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans.
