Coach Toups

Coach Michael Toups 

 

 

Coach Toups is entering his 4th year as the head basketball coach at East View High School and has a 75-31 overall record at East View High School and a 318-210 overall coaching record.  The Patriots were 25-10 last year and finished as the district runner-up and 5A Bi-District Champions.  This successful season followed on the heels of the best season in East View Boys Basketball history.   The 24-25 Patriots were 27-9 overall and 11-1 in district, capturing the first district championship and the first area championship in school history.  As a result of this team success, Coach Toups was named 23-5A District Coach of the Year for the 24-25 season, the first time an EV Boys Basketball coach has merited this honor.  

Prior to East View, Coach Toups spent eight years as the top assistant at two highly successful Texas programs (The Woodlands High School and Leander High School).  Six of those eight varsity teams advanced to the state playoffs.

Coach Toups served as a head coach in the state of Louisiana for thirteen years, all in the highest levels of basketball in the state.  His best team at St. Paul’s High School was a district champion and state quarterfinalist.  

Beyond coaching his own team, Coach Toups was an advocate for basketball in the state of Louisiana.  In this role, he coached the East All Star squad in 2006-07, was Vice President of the Louisiana High School Basketball Coaches Association from 2010-2012, and coordinated the East All-Star Team in 2014.  

Coach Toups earned a communications degree from Loyola University in New Orleans where he also played basketball collegiately for three seasons.   He earned a Master’s Degree in the Art of English Teaching from the University of New Orleans in 2008.  In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Toups teaches English II Advanced.  

Each of Coach Toups’ parents devoted over 40 years to the field of education in the roles of teacher and principal.

In his spare time, Coach Toups enjoys reading, movies, live music, playing tennis, biking, traveling, and rooting for the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans.  

After three years on the job, Coach Toups considers himself to be a Patriot Forever.
